Amy Fishlock (b.1987) is an artist and educator based in Teesside and Leeds. Fishlock studied Fine Art at Leeds Metropolitan University in 2013 and later completed her MA in History of Art at University of Leeds in 2017. Fishlock is Course Leader for the FD Art and BA (Hons) Art courses at University Centre Leeds and teaches across the Creative Arts department. Fishlock's work observes contemporary culture through the medium of text, illustration, and sculpture. Inspired by the growing textualisation of everyday life, her research-based practice explores the materiality of language and the effects of new media on communication. Her practice considers how the compositional and material properties of language shape the way we think and experience the world and each other. Her most recent works explore issues relating to identity, misinterpretation, and the alienation experienced through technology. Her work aims to reflect the current condition in a way that is critical, playful, humorous and ironic.
